Burneside Match Report (For teams in each match see Team Sheet Page)
Saturday 16th February 2008
Keswick 1st 2 v Burneside 1st 0 (Benevolent Trophy).
A good performance at Keswick for the lads but nothing to show for it. Keswick again next week at home in the league and we are capable of beating them on our day.
Penrith Rangers Reserves 5 v Burneside Reserves 1 (League)
Nothing is running for these lads at times they looked as if they could get back into it having gone 2- 0 down and then got it back to 2 - 1. The game ran away from them late in the second half having put in a good period before half time and then well into the second half.
Saturday 9th February 2008

Well beaten by a well organised very young Kendal United Team. Greg Pearce getting Burnesides consolation goal.
Burneside A 8 v Coniston Reserves 2.
A good all round performance from the A team with goals coming 3 from Darren Huck and 1 a piece from Graham Withers, Simon Daws, Stephen Elgy, Dale Atkinson and Martin Willan.
Saturday 26th Jan 2008
Wetheriggs 1st 5 - v Burneside 1st 1 (High Sheriffs Cup)
A result to be put behind the team and concentrate on 1st Divison survival. Martin O'Sullivan getting the consolation goal.
Burneside Reserves 1 - v - Lunesdale Reserves 2 (League)
Milnthorpe 3 - v - Burneside A 0 (League)
Six good chances missed in first half when we dominated the game. Half time changes of pushing Stephen Elgy up front to use his pace looked like working and we continued with the upper hand. However we had always looked vulnerable at set pieces and that was our undoing when we failed to clear our lines from a corner and the ball bobbled about in the box and was poked home. Milnthorpe 2nd goal was a direct direct free kick by Shane Dixon which foxed Gav in nets and it looped in over his head and just under bar. 3rd goal by Milnthorpe was right at the death and dont think lad could score like it again if he tried, long range diagonal effort which just sneaked in at top corner. This team has got to start finding goals soon or they will lose pace with other teams in league. Good performances are being put in week on week but we need to get on top with goals as well as game dominance with lots of possession and plenty of chances.
Saturday 19th January 2008
IBIS 1st - v - Burneside 1st (League)
Game called off water logged pitch at Lakes School where IBIS play.
Burneside Reserves 1 - v - Appleby Reserves 2 (League)
Saturday 12th January 2008
Carvetii Reserves 2 - v - Burneside Reserves 2 (League)
Coniston Reserves 2 - v - Burneside A 2 (League)
A must win game for the A team in order to stay in contention for the 4th Division title. The lads set about Coniston and with the majority of possession in first half they created chance after chance with the Coniston goalie pulling of 3 exceptional saves to keep them in it. As the first half wore on the lads became more and more frustrated with not finding the back of the net and eventually they were their own worst enemies falling suckers to 2 defensive mistakes letting midfielders run through onto through balls to give Coniston a 2 goal lead at half time. With changes in player positions made at half time Stephen Elgy was pushed up front alongside Paul McKnight and this freshened it up up front however we did not get our breakthrough until midway through the second half this was when Arran Martin was pushed onto the left wing and with his forward running their right back who had got the measure of Dan Hannon found a different player running at him and he struggled to cope and that small change made the difference, Arran getting himself on the score sheet was a good fillip for him, Dan had played really well and was substituted for tactics and not performance. Simon Daws grabbed the eqauliser right on 90 minutes and match drawn. 2 points dropped rather than 1 gained was the feeling after the game.
Saturday 5th January 2008
Appleby 1st Team 0 - v - Burneside 1st Team 0 (League)
Following a 9.00 am pitch inspection by Jock Nugent at Appleby and although with some standing water which could be got rid of the pitch he declared it fit to play on. Burneside travelled to Appleby with a bare 11 players following a mix up in messages which left us with 2 no shows and unable to get an extra player decided to travel with just 11. With no match report as such it is fair to say that the eleven players who played at Appleby did the club proud in getting a 0 - 0 draw against the team presently topping the league. We now need to press on from this result and build upon it and start climbing the league ourselves.
Burneside Reserves 0 - v - Ullswater 3 (League)
Saturday 15th December 2007
Burneside 1st Team 0 - v - Kendal County 1st Team 3.
Burneside went into this game with an air of optimism about the game knowing they have been putting in good performances of late however without getting results, and there was a feeling a result was possible here. However this was not to be and by half time Burneside were 3 - 0 down with 2 goals by Gary Baker and 1 goal by Jimmy Ellwood for Kendal County. In the second half Burneside battled well and contained County and did grind out half a dozen good chances themselves however it was not to be and the final result was fair on the day.
Shap Reserves v Burneside Reserves
Match called off - pitch frozen.
Windermere A 3 - v Burneside A 6.
Burneside played the first half up the slope on Rayrigg Meadow and took an early lead when Paul McKnight set up Dan Hannon to stroke the ball home with his left foot from just outside the 6 yard box. Windermere then came on strong and were soon 2 - 1 up playing down the slope and capitaising on defensive errors with a very slippery ball in moist conditions. Burneside then got it back to 2 - 2 when Martin Willan rounded the keeper and walked the ball into the net. Burneside then went ahead just before half time when Paul McKnight ended a one two passing move with Stephen Elgy to calmly slot the ball home. Playing down the slope in the second half Burneside got to grips with the Windermere attack and following a dubious penalty where Willan drew the tackle from the Windermere defender and the went down over the outstretched leg, Simon Daws stepped to up to drive home from the spot. Windermere were then fortunate themselves with a penalty when Andrew Howson was adjudged to have held a Windermere forward and the game was pulled back to 4 - 3 by Windermere with the spotkick. Burneside substituted the hard working but tiring Paul McKnight midway through the second half and he was applauded from the field by his team mates for his match winning performance. Burneside then continued to press forward and were rewarded for their prolonged pressure with further goals from Jordan Simpson driving inside from the left wing to slot home, and then Martin Willan claimed the 6th goal when his speculative shot was deflected into the net. A good all round performance from the team which now needs taking onwards into the games against much stronger opposition and making them match winning performances.
Saturday 8th December 2007
All games off in Westmorland League - waterlogged pitches.
Saturday 1st December 2007
Ambleside 1st Team 4 - v - Burneside 1st Team 1 (League)
Burneside travelled to Ambleside at full strength and were unfortunate not to come away with a result. Although the scoreline was 4 - 1 to Ambleside to Burnesides credit they were congratulated by Ambleside on the quality of football they played. Taking the lead in the first half with a goal from Mike Wilson we held it until the 70th minute where the game then got away from us and we conceded 4 late goals.
Burneside Reserves 0 - v - Ambleside Reserves 3 ( Peter Daws cup 1st round).
Kirkby Thore 3 - v - Burneside A 2. (League)
Having beaten Kikby Thore earlier in the league quite convincingly at home, we knew however that their form was much improved against ours where we have been leaking too many goals from defensive mistakes and from set pieces. Given that we needed to improve and knowing they would come at us early on like they had with the reserves in the Junior Cup we needed a solid start however it was not to be and within 15 minutes we had conceded 3 goals. All three goals avoidable if we had not been complacent and given the ball away when we had been in good offensive positions for them to then hit us at the back with pace and 3 goals in three attacks in a 15 minute spell we have to learn from and move on! Give credit to our lads their heads did not drop and several chances were created and Martin Willan got the break through with a run at the right near post when he drilled the shot to the front post through the keeper to get us back to 3 - 1. With the turn around we were well in control of the game and Kirkby Thore were left trying long range efforts but still were dangerous and forced a fingertip save from Ross as well has hitting the bar in the first half, however our 2 centre backs Greg Berresford and Andrew Howson got to grips with their pace and along with Graham Withers and Simon Daws working hard in midfield they were snubbed out which gave us chances to get back into the game and with more hard work from Dale Atkinson he got it back to 3 - 2 for us. Our concentrated pressure also was helped by swapping Stephen Elgy from the unfamiliar left wing to the right wing where he got into the game more and troubled time and again their left back and we could and should have got an equaliser. A late change in tactics from 4- 4 - 2 to 3 - 4 - 3 putting Matthew Regan up front helped, but Kirkby Thores resolute defence along with bit of luck on their part kept us out as we finished the far stronger team. Well done to the lads but we need to dig deep and although we are performing well we need to turn those performances against the top teams into results, next week home to an unknown Milnthorpe will be a tough test, then the week after away to Windermere which on paper we should win but we must not be over confident or complacent about and then away to Langwathby will be a real test having lost to them at home recently when we deserved a result says we should dig deep and avoid them doing the double on us!
Saturday 24th November 2007
Ullswater 0 - v - Burneside Reserves 1 (League)
On a very wet and blustery day Burneside at last put a performance in worthy of their quality. Dominating the game for nearly all of the 90 minutes Burneside defended and attacked as a unit creating many chances. The only downside to the performance was the quality of their finishing, never really testing the Ullswater goalkeeper until early in the second half when a neat passing move resulted in Dean McNeill scoring a peach of a goal, just floating the ball over the Ullswater goalkeeper as he closed Dean down. There where some fine individual performances especially from Liam Reegan and Andy Wilson (his first game this season). With not having a regular goalkeeper available Dan Roberts from the 1st team was called in and for 89 minutes he had nothing to do except take goal kicks, until he pulled off a save worthy of any Premiership goalkeeper, tipping the ball over the bar from a fine shot, ensuring the full 3 points for Burneside. This is hopefully the turn around for the reserves as they are still in with a chance of promotion and have a big game on Saturday against league leaders Ambleside Reserves in the Peter Daws cup.
Endmoor KGR Reserves 5 - v - Burneside A 2
With 5 regular players missing and the 1st team no game then we had no choice but to use 1st teamers (3 on bench - 3 in starting line up). All went well in the first half with us making the chances however we only got the one goal from a penalty when Chris Dixon was pulled down in the box and Martin Willan took the spot kick and drove the ball hard through the keeper into the net. With us having squandered several good chances Endmoor got themselves back into the game to take the scoreline into half time at 1 - 1. In the second half Endmoor made far better going of the horrible boggy pitch and capitalised on wing play and winning set pieces where their 2nd and 3rd goals came from to give them a 3 - 1 lead by midway in the second half. With lots of pressure we forced a free kick on the edge of their penalty box and Chris Dixon took it and with the goalie more interested in taking players out than saving the shot we got it back to 3 - 2. At this point we strengthened the midfield however the man of the match Ashley Swanton from Endmoor always broke up our pressure and we were exposed at the back and done a further twice to lose it 5 - 2. We have got to put this game behind us including the lack of discipline at the end and move forward to the next game away at Kirkby Thore which will see us need to regroup our young squad and on a decent pitch look to put in a better display and tighten our defence whilst pressing on once we have got the lead!

Kirkby Thore 3 - v - Burneside Reserves 4 (Junior Cup 2nd Round)
On a windy day Burneside played against the wind in the first half with both teams having equal amount of the play. Ross Walker was called up from the Academy team to replace the injured Shaun Knowles and he did himself credit with a confident performance making a fine save from a good free kick. Burneside failed to play as a team and were soon behind by 1 goal but equalised 15 mins later. The equaliser came soon after but Burneside went into half time 2 goals to 1 down. After the break Burneside started to play like more of a team and put the pressure on creating a chance what was saved on the line by Kirkby Thores left back with his hand. The referee awarded a penalty but only booked the player and did not send him off for some strange reason. Kirkby Thore then battled well and got themselves back into the game with a goal that may not have actually crossed the line but the referee gave the decision and Burneside where 3-2 down. Steffan Gratton was then injured in a studs up tackle forcing a substitution, Steven Elgey being brought on to replace him. Never looking like they where going to score two subs where used Curtis Nicholson and Dean McNeill for Craig Waller and Kev Pickering. Still not threatening the Kirby Thore goal the game was turned on its head when the referee sent off two Kirby Thore players, one for a bad tackle and the other for foul and abusive. This then gave Burneside their chance with a good driven free kick goal by Dean McNeill and a power header from 10 yards out from a corner by Dan Croskell. Even when they where down to 9 men Kirby Thorne still managed to put the pressure on Burneside although they did contain it. This was a below average performance against a team that is a division below but at least Burneside managed to scrape a result. The goal scorers where Gary Bigland, Dean McNeill, Dan Croskell and Dan Grindley.
Burneside A. 5 v Dent Reserves 2 (1st round Austin Wren Cup)
Team talk in the dressing room was last time we played them at home in the league it took us until the second half to score and the longer it went the more frustrating it became knowing we have had the ability to beat them - so it was to be lets get at em straight away. Not without hiccup however plans went awry during the match warm up when Dan Green pulled a muscle in the top of his thigh and became a doubtful starter, therefore with a quick phone call knowing Ian Morris was at home having been unable to travel with the reserves he was hastily dragged out of his armchair and put in the nets allowing Simon Daws to come out of the nets and do the Dan Green role of break it up in midfield allowing Graham Withers time and space to create. Having had the team talk and knowing the tactic of go for it from the off then thats what we did and it paid off and straight away they did the business and cannot say anything but well done to the lads 2 - 0 up after five minutes and then total control of the game. 1st goal coming from Martin Willan with his old goalpoaching coming back to him he poked a loose ball into the back of the net for 1 - 0. The 2nd goal came from Willan when he was hauled down in the penalty box he got up to slot the penalty home totally wrong footing the keeper sending him to the left and then stroking the ball to the right. With good pressure kept on the Dent defence midway through the 1st half we then went 3 - 0 up with Greg Berresford taking a long range free kick he looped the ball into the danger area between the goalkeeper and onrushing attack where Jordan Simpson rose to get good contact to head the ball home. Going into half time 3 - 0 up it gave us good opportunity to bring on the substitutes and give them a good period on the pitch and therefore with Dave Vaughan picking up an injury early in the second half Arron Martin was brought on into his normal left back position and then 5 minutes later a straght swap was Jack Skilling coming onto the left wing for Gareth Stewart.Dent although 3 - 0 down composed themselves and there was some good football from them for a while with pass and move working out of defence however they had no potency up front and could make no inroads into the resolute Burneside centre half partnership of Greg Berresford and Andrew Howson who were having a good game between them. Having weathered a bit of a storm from Dent, Burneside then pushed on for more goals and they came with a fourth by Graham Withers slotting home after a bit of a dribble and beating players. Then a 5th goal was the pick of the bunch when it came with Jordan Simpson who was encouraged to play wide right and deep received the ball outside the penalty box and finding himself facing an onrushing keeper he calmly lobbed it over him and into the back of the net. Dent then with nothing to lose pushed forward their older more experienced players from defence and grabbed a couple of goals in the last 5 minutes, the first coming when two of their strikers bearing down on Azza at left back as he tried to work the ball down the wing he was dispossessed having been given no options from his mates and that cost us a goal, Dents 2nd goal coming from more pressure on our defence by their old heads but it was too little too late from them and we ended up with a good win under our belts and advanced into the next round of the cup. It has got to be said well done to the third team because this is a good result from them against a team of experienced old heads from Dent.
Saturday 10th November 2007
Greystoke 1st 3 - v - Burneside 1st 0 (League)
No match report available - however Burneside hit the bar three times and the post twice however they never put it on the old onion bag!
Penrith Rangers Reserves - v - Burneside Reserves (League)
This match was abandoned after 30 minutes due to Shaun Knowles breaking his leg.
Up to this point Burneside had dominated the game leading by 1-0 from a well taken individual goal scored by Darren Huck, the ball coming off the bar and post just crossing the line although Penrith did dispute the referees decision. Burneside should have been 4 or 5 up within the 30 minutes but did not make the most of their chances,Dan Grindley coming close with 2 free kicks, Kev Pickering twice through on goal 1v1 with the keeper and Darren Huck just putting one over the bar. A very strong wind aided the pressure Burneside where putting Penrith under who battled well to contain Burneside. Burnesides midfield and defence worked well to shut out any attacks made by Penrith never troubling Tom Bush in goal. The match was then delayed after the tackle in which Shaun Knowles broke his leg (both shin bones in his right leg just above the ankle.) An ambulance was called and due to the lenghty delay it was decided it was best to abandon the match. As much as Burneside dominated the 30 minutes it would have been difficult to defend only a 1 goal lead against the wind in the second half. This is the second time this game has not been played as the first time Penrith called it off due to not being able to field a side. Maybe it will be third time lucky for Burneside!
Staveley Reserves 2 - v - Burneside A 4 (League)
A good win under the belt for the A team getting back on track beating Staveley Reserves in their own backyard. The first half was a tight affair with the scoreline twoing and froing and at the interval it was 2 - 2. Staveley having gone in front after 20 minutes when from a shot come cross from the right was parried by Ross in goals, and with the ball dropping loose in the box Cack Satterthwaite poked home at the back post. Burneside then forced the game back at Staveley and were rewarded for their efforts when Jordon Simpson on the right recieved the ball to cross for Matthew Regan to glance home the header at the back post. Burneside then continued to press for the lead but were caught on the counter attack and Scott O'Sullivan drove the ball home from 15 yards following a strong run from midfield into our penalty box where he was never closed down and allowed to shoot and score. Although 2 - 1 down Burneside continued to force the play and were rewarded with a penalty just before half time when Dan Green was pulled down in the box, Dan got up to take the penalty and made no mistakes with a hard high drive to the right giving Sheepy in the Staveley nets no chance. Burneside continued to press and could have gone into half time in the lead but for a good save from Sheepys legs from a low drive from Jordan Simpson. Coming out for the second half Burneside continued the onslaught on Staveleys goal with shots reining in from Dean McNeil, Martin Willan and a long range dipping effort from Jordan Simpson, all of which was supported from the pairing in midfield of Graham Withers and Dan Green who having never played together before but had got a good understanding going. Midway through the second half Burneside took a well deserved lead when Stephen Elgy playing on the right wing having been pushed forward from right back forced an error from the Staveley left back and disposessed him and running with the ball at his feet he got to just short of the by line and with a low hard drive from the tightest of angles found the back of the net. Staveley then tried to raise their game and even though the Satterthwaite brothers looked dangerous they were always well controlled by Dave Vaughan and Greg Berresford in the centre of Burnesides Defence. With Staveley back on the defensive Martin Willan forced an error from Sheepy in the Staveley goal and winning the ball he rounded the keeper on the edge of the 18 yard box and dribbled the ball into the back of the net with defenders chasing behind him but unable to do anything about Willan tapping the ball home for the 4th goal. From then on Burneside controlled the game for the last 10 minutes coming away in the end with a comfortable win. Bragging rights going to Ross Walker and Dan Green against their younger brothers Chris and Carl respectively in the Staveley side.

Keswick 1st 6 v Burneside 1st 1 (Senior Cup 2nd round)
No report available
Goal scorer - Dan Craghill
Burneside Reserves 3 v Ambleside Reserves 5 (league)
No report available
Goal scorers Dan Croskell, Dan Grindley and Sean McKenzie
Burneside A 1 v Langwathby 3 (league)
Goal scorer Graham Withers - good to see Graham fit again following knee operation.
Burneside A set about Langwathby meaning business and within 10 minutes were 1 - 0 up following a long throw to the back post for Graham to head home. We always looked dangerous and just lacked that final touch. Langwathby got a stroke of luck when Ref overuled our linesman and awarded throw to them which they took quickly and ball bounced free at back post and we were second to it and that gave gave Langwathby equiliser. Late in first half Dean McNeil lost his man and from just inside 18 yard box placed his shot over keeper to see it hit the diagonal of post and crossbar. Half time 1 - 1. Second half we battled well and looked good to take lead however our pressure came to nothing and with Langwathby looking dangerous on the break they got to 2 - 1 up following a lob over Ross in nets when game should have been stopped for Simon Daws lying injured in our penalty box but ref iglnored it and Lagwathby failed to hear shouts of put the ball outand carried on playing. More pressure saw us awarded a a penalty wih Martin Willan hauled down inside box but ref changed his mind after consultation with their linesman who should not influence refs decision. More pressure saw the long ball from Simon Daws throw confound Langwathby defence and Graham Withers was very unfortunate not to get a second goal with the same ploy of long throw to back post. Pushed on to get an equiliser which exposed our defence and Langwathby grabbed a third from good work down their right wing from their substitute which saw a loose ball pounced on and pushed past Ross returning frrom injury in the nets. The lads played really well today however they were robbed of a result by the referee! Fair result would have been a 2 - 2 draw if referee had pulled up play for injury and not let them get their 2nd goal and if he had stuck by his decision and given us the penalty. Fair due to Langwathby they deserve to be up near top of league on their all round performance!

Burneside 1st 1 v Appleby 1st 2 (League)
Burneside again with a strong squad available have still not managed to turn the corner, we are getting closer but are really in need of a morale boosting win in the league. They are capable of competing with Appleby and Carvetii of last week and winning those games however it is not just there yet. In this game against Appleby Burneside set off the strongest and within 10 minutes they were in the lead 1 - 0 up with Mike Wilson returning from his Westmorland FA Under 18's getting Burnesides goal. Burneside continued to pressurise the Appleby defence however Appleby always looked dangerous on the counter attack and on the half hour mark they hit the bar, Burneside however continued to pressurise Appleby but lost the ball and the Appleby striker was quickest to respond and with his pace he got in behind the Burneside defence to score. Appleby finshed the stronger in the first half and took that on into the second half and as Burneside tired with ten minutes to go Appleby got the winner. Burneside face a big test next weekend away to Keswick in the Senior Cup.
Wetheriggs Res 8 v Burneside Reserves 1 (Junior Cup 1st Round).
Not a lot can be said here we got stuffed. If we have aspirations of gaining promotion to the 2nd division we must be at least competing with teams like Wetheriggs Reserves who are from the 2nd division. Once we were 4 goals down heads went down and Wetheriggs piled it on. The goal for Burneside coming from a free kick by Daaniel Grindley which dipped and swerved to beat the Wetheriggs keeper. As footnote the result could have been different if the Wetheriggs keeper had been sent off which he should have been!
Burneside A 6 v Windermere A 0 (League)
A good result for the A team getting back on track following a dip in form where they had only got 2 points from a possible 9 in their last 3 games. This game was all but over after 20 minutes with Martin Willan getting the first 4 goals within that time. Later in the 1st half he set up Dave Vaughan to rifle home a low drive from the edge of the 18 yard box. The turn around for the second half was lets play football with the young lads from Windermere and thats what we did, however it allowed them to boss the midfield for a good 20 minutes however they had no one who could put the finishing touch and get them a goal. Midway through the second half we adjusted from 4 - 4 - 2 and went 3 - 5 - 2 to take hold of the game again and very quickly we got a 6th from Matthew Regan. Got to say well played to the young team from Windermere 5 - 0 down at half time and their heads never went down and they played some good neat passing football. Substitutions for Burneside were a like for like swap with Craig Proctor replacing Arran Martin at left back and both of these young players deserve that spot as they are both very good young players. The other swap was tactical bring Andrew Howson off from the centre of defence replacing him with Liam Regan into the centre of mid field. Also late in the game we had a goalie swap with Ian Morris going up front from in the nets and Gareth Stewart trying on the goalie gloves where they both aquited themselves well and kept a clean sheet.
Saturday 20th October 2007:
Burneside 1st 1 v Carvetii 1st 3.
Burneside went into this game expectant of getting a good result having a strong squad available. In the first half they played some good football and deserved to go 1 - 0 up with a goal from Mark Selby. However the lead was shortlived and 10 minutes into the second half Carvetii got an equaliser and after this Burneside pressing for an equaliser conceded a 3rd and it was game over.
Burneside A 0 v Kendal Celtic 3.
Burneside A started the brighter team and early in the game they looked as if they would be quickly on the score sheet with Gary Bigland troubling the Celtic defence, however the early flurry from Burneside was ground down by a very workman like Celtic team ethic. Celtic worked their way into the game and midway through the first half Shaun Knowles in Burnesides goals pulled down Martin to concede a penalty and he got himself a booking for contesting the decision. Luck was with Burneside and the Celtic striker put the ball against the base of the post and it deflected for a throw given the ferocity of the shot. Late in the first half a mix up in defence let Martin through to put the ball past Shuan for them to 1 - 0 up. With the second half turnaround Burneside again started brightly but it was not to last as Celtic gained the upper hand and found themselves 2 - 0 up when Burneside failed to clear from defence and conceded a second goal. Burneside then regrouped and went three at the back and before they had settled into any rythmn conceded a 3rd goal. From then on Celtic sat back and soaked up Burnesides pressure and Burneside were unfortunate not to get a couple back firstly Kev Pickering working on the left caused havoc in the box however his low cross pinged about but no luck for Burneside. Burneside then continued to press for a goal and the next best effort was Sean McKenzie with a well timed header just going over the bar. Although Burneside did finish strongly it was too little too late against a very experienced and physical Celtic team who it has to be said deserved thier win today. A lesson today particulary for the youngsters in the team that they need to step up to the mark and match the physicality of much older and maturer players as was the case against Kendal Celtic.
Saturday 13th October 2007:
Braithwaite 3 v Burneside 1st 7 - Benevolent Trophy 1st Round
Braithwaite deserve credit for the spirited performance, playing in the 4th division they gave us from the first division a good game. Score went
0 - 1 Leigh Ellwood, 1 - 1. 1 - 2 Jimmy Ellwood, 2 - 2, 2 - 3 Dale Atkinson.
Half time - 2 - 3. Half time and Braithwaite were still in it!
2 - 4 Leigh Ellwood penalty.2 - 5 Leigh Ellwood penalty, 3 - 5 goal for Braithwaite when ball burst and ref said its Burneside ball so passed it back to Gorsty to restart play and Braithwaite forward nipped in and put in back of net, goal given. 3 - 6 Mike Wilson back on track, 3 - 7 Leigh Ellwood notched his 4th. Braithwaite also had a penalty saved.
Burneside Reserves 1 v Shap Reserves 5 - League
Esthwaite Vale 0 v Burneside A 0 - League
A well contested match with both teams defences playing well and not giving anything away, second clean sheet for Mosser. Esthwaite Vale can certainly build from this result to move up the table. Burneside have got to remain tight at the back and the strikers when it comes they will get the goals as plenty of chances are being created from midfield - half a dozen today but no goals.
Saturday 6th October 2007:
Northbank v Burneside - away win walk over awarded.
Burneside Reserves 5 v Wetheriggs A 0
The reserves got a good win under their belts with 2 goals from Gary Bigland and a hat trick for Sean McKenzie who came off the bench in the second half to notch the goals.
This gave the reserves a well deserved 5 - 0 win.
Burneside A 2 v Staveley Reserves 2.
Both goals coming for Burneside in the first half, being solo efforts from Martin Willan running at the defence. With the score poised 2 - 1 at half time Burneside created several chances to extend the lead in the second period but it was never to be and Chris Walker got Staveley an equaliser in the dying minutes as they finished the stronger team.
